FeedBurner Acquired by Google
FeedBurner, a provider of media distribution and audience engagement services for blogs and RSS feeds, has been taken over by Google. What does this mean for Google ranking?
Will Google's acquisition of FeedBurner alter search engine ranking? Some in the industry are concerned that the importance of inbound links could be lessened in favor of RSS feed subscription counts when ranking pages.
However, due the establishment of the existing page rank system, we feel that Google is unlikely to change its methodology, at least in the short term. Changing well-establised rules would create a backlash that would hurt Googles credibility by leaving millions of pages out of the loop.
Don't forget, a significant proportion of the web is made up of static web pages which do not have RSS feeds. Is Google going to turn its back to this segment? It's unlikely.
